What is Medical director?
A medical director is the licensed physician (or, in some states, advanced practice provider) who owns a clinic's clinical oversight: treatment protocols, standing orders, delegation, chart review, and adverse-event response. In many states, a med spa that is not physician-owned must operate under this oversight for any service that is the practice of medicine.
How it works in an aesthetic clinic
A nurse-owned med spa contracts a medical director who signs the protocols and standing orders, performs or supervises good faith exams, reviews a sample of charts monthly, and is reachable for escalations. The duties and compensation live in a written agreement, and the chart shows the oversight actually happening rather than existing only on paper.
