What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC (application-to-person, ten-digit long code) is the US carrier framework for businesses sending texts from standard local numbers: brands and campaign use cases are registered with the carriers, throughput is allocated by trust score, and unregistered business texting gets filtered or blocked. Every clinic texting through software operates under it.

How it works in an aesthetic clinic

A clinic's platform registers the business (legal name, EIN, brand details) and its campaign types (appointment reminders, waitlist offers, marketing) with the carrier ecosystem. Once registered, reminders and confirmations deliver reliably at proper throughput; unregistered senders watch messages silently disappear. This registration is why platforms ask for business details before enabling texting.

A2P 10DLC vs a short code

A2P 10DLCA local 10-digit number, registered for conversational and notification traffic
A short codeA 5-6 digit number for high-volume broadcast, at much higher cost

Why it matters for clinic operators

Deliverability is invisible until it fails: the reminder that never arrived becomes the no-show that was never confirmed. Registration is the difference, and a platform that handles it removes an entire failure mode.
